
Perhaps you want to learn a bit about the person behind the curtain. Go beyond the factoids on a resume. Well, hate to disappoint, but it’s not wildly interesting stuff. Oh well, here goes…
Lovely wife, two kids, muppet-like dog, and we currently reside in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The capital of Amish country. It’s cool mostly, with great farm stands and sweets, the occasional buggy trotting past, gourd contest at the town fair every year. That said, we’re open to relo. Oh, I’m also a huge Jaws fan. I have proof from the 50th anniversary exhibit.
As far as work goes, I think of myself as a craftsperson. There’s artistry to this profession, but I’m no artist (Joni Mitchell, that’s an artist). To me, the field of advertising could be called Applied Creativity (they should give degrees for that). And that may sound boring, but I feel seeking a competitive advantage through creativity is a very practical business goal. So I approach it as such. If you’re a fan of the wisdom of Bill Bernbach, that’s where I nod along.
And maybe that’s what’s interesting about me? That I genuinely care about the messaging that so many dismiss as disposable? That I treat making it as a craft that can (and should) have a measurable impact on business success? If so, I’m a real thrill.
